Manage long-term records in ACLs

A long-term reservation of a license lasts until the expiration date of the license. With Offline Qt License Server, the expiration date is the valid_to date of the license in the entitlement.json file.

You can create long-term records or remove them by updating the access control list (ACL) file (acl.json) of your instance. For more information about the ACL file, see Manage ACLs.

When Qt License Server starts, it generates long-term records from the ACL and creates a long-term license list of the users who can reserve each license.

Turn on long-term license usage

To let users reserve long-term licenses, set the QLS_LONGTERM_USAGE environment variable to yes in the Qt License Server configuration.

In the qt-license-server.service file, set:

Environment="QLS_LONGTERM_USAGE=yes"

In the qt-service.xml file, set:

<env name="QLS_LONGTERM_USAGE" value="yes" />

Update long-term records

To manage long-term records with an ACL:

  1. Edit long-term records in the ACL file using the longtermUsage object format.
  2. Set the ACL file to use.
    ./qt-license-server set-acl --from-json <.json file input path> --url <URL of the running instance>

    Note: This updates both the ACL and long-term license list.

  1. Edit long-term records in the ACL file using the longtermUsage object format.
  2. Set the ACL file to use.
    .\qt-license-server.exe set-acl --from-json <.json file input path> --url <URL of the running instance>

    Note: This updates both the ACL and long-term license list.

List long-term reservations

To list long-term reservations of a license, enter:

./qt-license-server list-long-term-users --url <URL> --license <number>
.\qt-license-server.exe list-long-term-users --url <URL> --license <number>

Omit --license to list long-term reservations of all licenses.

After you change the configuration file, restart Offline Qt License Server as described in Reconfigure.
