Qt License Server
Qt License Server hosts the licenses for Qt and QA products, collects license usage reports, and manages license reservation requests from the client-side (Qt License Service).
Qt License Server is responsible for processing the license reservation requests and returning a response to client side Qt License Service, which then caches the result locally on the developer's machine.
Qt License Server tracks license seat availability and handles reservation requests from multiple developers. When a developer's tool needs a license, Qt License Server checks the license pools and grants or denies the request accordingly.
The client side tools are served by the local Qt License Service, which caches the license reservations.
Administrators can control which users can reserve which licenses using an access control list (ACL). For more information, see Qt License Server ACL file format.
Qt License Server generates detailed usage reports covering every reservation, renewal, and release. Use these reports to track utilization, plan license renewals, and demonstrate compliance. For more information about the collected data, see Reporting and data collection.
REST APIs are provided for automation purposes.
Server types
The default version, Cloud Qt License Server, is hosted by Qt and you don't have to configure or maintain the server. However, you can also host Qt License Server yourself either as On-Prem Qt License Server or as Offline Qt License Server.
| Qt License Server type | Description |
|---|---|
| Cloud Qt License Server |
|
| On-Prem Qt License Server |
|
| Offline Qt License Server |
|
Each server type has its own set of instructions, because the setup and the day-to-day administration differ. Select the type your organization uses:
- Cloud Qt License Server - no server setup, managed by Qt.
- On-Prem Qt License Server - you host the server, it synchronizes with the Qt cloud.
- Offline Qt License Server - you host the server, no internet connection required.
Note: On-Prem Qt License Server is available in version 3.3.0 or later. In older versions, only Offline Qt License Server is available.
