Reservation device limit

A site or named license reservation can be shared between several devices, for example when a team shares one named user account across a few workstations. Qt Company can provide such a license with a reservation device limit: an optional property that bounds how many different devices can use the same reservation at the same time.

Note: This is not something you configure yourself. If your license includes a reservation device limit, it's already present as reservation_device_limit in the pool_info section of the entitlement.json file that Qt Company delivered for that license. For more information about the structure of this file, see Compose entitlement.json from multiple licenses.

"pool_info": {
    "concurrent_consumers": 100,
    "lease_time": 7,
    "lease_time_unit": "day",
    "reservation_type": "user",
    "reservation_device_limit": 3
}

In this example, up to three different devices can use the same reservation at the same time. If the property is absent, a very high default limit applies, which in practice never restricts the reservation.

Note: The property only applies to site and named licenses. Floating licenses always serve a single device per reservation and are not affected by this limit.

When the limit is reached

Once a reservation is already in use from as many devices as its limit allows, a request from one more, different device for the same reservation is refused with:

"The maximum number of devices allowed per reservation has been reached."

To resolve this, release the reservation from one of the other devices first, or contact your license admin to acquire a license with a higher device limit.

Note: The same device limit is enforced for On-Prem Qt License Server and Cloud Qt License Server if the license contains this property.

A reservation that serves several devices lists all of their hardware IDs in exported reports. For more information, see Reporting and data collection.
