Preview

Preview shows one layer of your design fully rendered in its own window, so you can see how it looks when it runs.

The QML Preview window showing the control panel
The QML Preview window shows the current layer, rendered the way it runs.

Open the preview

  1. Select the layer you want to see, for example a frame, on the canvas or in the Layers panel.
  2. Click Preview in the toolbar.

A window titled QML Preview opens next to Clate. It shows your layer running on a black background, and the window has the size of the layer.

  • If nothing is selected, Preview shows the first layer of the active page.
  • If you select an object inside a frame, Preview shows the whole layer that contains it.
  • Preview needs at least one object on a page. When there is nothing to show, nothing opens.

The preview window is separate from the main window. You can keep it open while you work. There is one Preview window at a time. Close the window when you are done.

note

A preview shows your design as it was when you clicked Preview. To see later changes, click Preview again.

What Preview is for

Use Preview to check colors, gradients, rounded corners, and text exactly as a device draws them. It uses the same conversion as Export to QML, so what you see is what your developers get.
