Install client-side tools

With Offline Qt License Server, install the client-side tools on each developer workstation and point them to your instance.

Qt License Service is the background process that requests and renews license reservations on the developer's computer. mocwrapper lets Qt Framework builds reserve a license.

Qt License Service is installed automatically with Qt Tools. Install it manually only if you need to, for example when setting up a build machine without a full Qt installation.

  1. Get Qt Online Installer from Qt Customer Portal.
  2. Install Qt Tools on your workstation. Qt License Service is installed automatically. For a manual installation, see Install Qt License Service manually.
  3. If you build Qt Framework from sources, Set up mocwrapper for Qt Framework.
  4. Configure the server address of your Offline Qt License Server instance so that Qt License Service knows which server to contact.
  5. Test the connection to your Offline Qt License Server instance.

Configure the server address

By default, Qt License Service contacts the Qt-hosted server. To reserve licenses from your Offline Qt License Server instance, configure the address of the instance for Qt License Service on each client computer.

Use the URL and port of the instance, for example https://my.company.offline.address:8080. The port must be the port number that the node-locked entitlement.json file is locked to, which is also the value of QLS_PORT in the configuration file of the instance. For more information, see Manage license node-locking. If the instance uses plain HTTP (QLS_ENABLE_SSL=no), use http:// in the address.

In Qt License Service version 3.4 or later, to set the server address, run:

<QtSDK>/Tools/LicenseService/qtlicensetool --set-server-address <URL>
<QtSDK>\Tools\LicenseService\qtlicensetool.exe --set-server-address <URL>

To ensure the server address is correctly set, run:

<QtSDK>/Tools/LicenseService/qtlicensetool --get-server-address
<QtSDK>\Tools\LicenseService\qtlicensetool.exe --get-server-address

With older Qt License Service versions, configure the server address in the configuration file:

  1. Open the qtlicd.ini file.
  2. Set the value of server_addr to the address and port of your Offline Qt License Server instance.

Test the connection

To ensure you have installed and configured Qt License Service properly, test the connection to Qt License Server. Ping the server to get its version:

qtlicensetool --serverversion
qtlicensetool.exe --serverversion

If you get back a version number, the connection works properly.
